Turning Up

After a full semester at All Saints, I’m beginning to feel like I’m no longer the 'new' principal — and that feels fantastic. We stayed close to home on the Gold Coast over the holidays and were treated to some truly spectacular winter days. How lucky we are to be surrounded by such incredible beaches, bush walks and wildlife — have we all seen the whales yet? Wow.

I enjoyed precious time with my mother, who visited for the week, and with my wife and kids — a chance to slow down and reflect on what has been a very happy and busy first half of the year. As I shared with staff on Monday, my goals for Semester 2 include:

  • Continuing to learn as many names as I can
  • Spending more time with more students and more people across the school
  • Progressing our All Saints Blueprint 2026+, our plan for the future
  • Continuing 1-on-1 conversations with colleagues as I learn their stories, hopes, and dreams for our school
  • Visiting the quieter corners of All Saints — the clubs, initiatives, and classrooms that may not always make headlines, but help shape the heartbeat of our school

I hope the break brought opportunities for rest and reconnection, even if only in small but meaningful moments. Between a phone full of notifications and the many responsibilities we each carry, being truly present can be a challenge. We often tell our children to slow down, to be in the moment — but as adults, it’s something we must strive to model too.

Over the holidays, our students made the most of every opportunity on offer.

We had incredible success at the Queensland Athletics State All Schools Cross Country Relays — our very first time participating in the event. Against strong competition from GPS, QGSSSA and other state-wide schools, we were thrilled to see two of our teams finish first in the state: the Girls 10 Years and Boys 8 Years teams. We also saw Girls 14 Years place second, and Boys 9 Years take bronze. All 42 athletes ran superbly. Special thanks to Ms de Casanove and our 2025 cross country coaches for their leadership and commitment.

Our Middle and Senior School ski trips ventured to Falls Creek and Perisher, our Duke of Edinburgh Silver Award students completed their Great Walk on the Sunshine Coast, and our Performing Arts students toured Europe, performing in some of the most beautiful settings in the world. From Salzburg to London, they sang, danced, and played with passion and joy, and represented All Saints with pride. Whether our students were two hours away or halfway around the world, they returned home with skills, friendships, and stories that will endure.

We also kicked off Term 3 sport with a bang, with our Middle and Senior School Girls AFL teams taking on Marymount in the QCup this week. Both matches were skillful and physical, but our girls showed resilience and determination — and came away victorious. Both teams now advance to the next round. Incredible performances and a huge congratulations to all involved.

Back on campus, we proudly celebrated NAIDOC Week. Guided by this year’s theme, The Next Generation: Strength, Vision and Legacy, students of all ages engaged deeply with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander histories and cultures through story, art, music and discussion. It was uplifting to witness the genuine curiosity and respect shown by our young people — a reminder of the important role education plays in building a more inclusive and understanding future.

We also had the pleasure of welcoming several new international students on Tuesday — from Germany, Italy, Brazil, Japan, Taiwan, Hong Kong, and mainland China. What a gift it is to learn from one another, and how fortunate we are to be part of a truly global school community. We also welcome our 13 French exchange students and thank their host families for their generosity and support.

At the end of last term, staff worked together to articulate the traits and values we most want to develop in our graduates. This exercise, which will inform the first draft of our All Saints graduate profile, generated a beautiful and affirming list of 'I am' statements — designed to inspire conversations with students and families, and to give shape to the personal qualities we hope our learners carry into life beyond school. We will be sharing this with the wider community soon.

Also underway is our analysis of the recent parent, student and staff survey. I will be presenting findings to the School Council and Executive team over the next fortnight, before sharing highlights — including emerging action areas — with families in the first half of Term 3. Thank you to all who took the time to complete the survey. Your voice matters and will play a central role in shaping our school’s direction moving forward.

In assemblies this week, I introduced our theme for the term: Turning Up. It’s a phrase I love because it’s about consistency, presence, and effort — in the small moments and the big ones. When we turn up for ourselves, our friends, our school and our families — with energy, commitment and care — we build the kind of culture that lifts everyone. It’s not always easy, but it always matters.

For our Year 12s, this is your final full term of school — a milestone that brings intensity, anticipation, and emotion in equal measure. We are with you every step of the way.

And for the rest of our students, this is the space where the real learning often happens — the 'in-between' of the school year where confidence grows and habits are strengthened. Make the most of it.

Thank you to all of our parents and carers for your continued support and partnership. I’m so proud of the way our students throw themselves wholeheartedly into the opportunities on offer — and I’m equally grateful for the teachers and staff who support them every step of the way.

Here’s to a meaningful and energising Term 3.

A New Era in Digital Safety Education

Raising children in today’s world means navigating an online landscape that’s evolving faster than most of us can keep up with. From the first iPad game to group chats, gaming, and social media, our children are growing up connected — and the way we support them matters. Helping them become safe, respectful, and resilient digital citizens is one of the most important roles we play as parents.

At All Saints, we believe in taking a proactive, community-wide approach to digital wellbeing. That’s why we’re proud to announce a powerful new partnership with Ctrl+Shft, Australia’s leading authority on digital safety education.

Founded by four of the country’s most trusted voices—Kirra Pendergast, Maggie Dent, Dr Brad Marshall, and Madeleine West—Ctrl+Shft brings together deep expertise across online safety, parenting, psychology, and education. Their mission? To equip families, schools and communities with the tools they need to navigate the digital age with confidence, empathy and clarity.

At the heart of this partnership is Kirra Pendergast, Ctrl+Shft’s founder and Chief Digital Safety & Governance Strategist. A globally recognised leader in her field, Kirra brings a wealth of insight, lived experience and no-nonsense wisdom to the conversation around online safety.

We’re thrilled to be launching this collaboration with a special evening for parents and caregivers:

How to Help Our Children Stay Safe Online

📍 Nairn Theatre
📅 Wednesday 30 July
🕖 7.00 pm – 8.30 pm
(Adults only – 18+)

In this practical and highly relevant session, Kirra will explore the digital issues that matter most to All Saints families — from group chats and online gaming to screen time, photo sharing, scams, and the growing risks around image-based abuse. Her no-fear approach is grounded in empathy and honesty, helping parents feel more informed, more prepared, and less overwhelmed.

Following this event, Kirra will return to All Saints in August to deliver a series of age-specific student workshops and a session for staff, building a shared understanding across our school community.

This is a conversation for every parent, no matter how old your child is or how confident they are with technology. We hope you’ll join us.

🎟️ Attendance is free, but please RSVP so we can prepare the space and resources accordingly.

The New Junior School Car Park Opens!

I’m giving the highly anticipated opening of Phase 1 of our new lower car park this week a solid ‘B+’. There is still some room for improvement as we all get used to new drop off and pick up routines but there was also lots to celebrate. Thank you to those who shared feedback and to all families for your support and patience.

For me, the highlight was seeing so many parents able to park and wander into the school to chat with other parents, smile and wave to teachers and simply spend time walking through with their children. This beautiful aspect of engagement has been missing and now there is space for parking there is also time.

Updated communications were sent to all Junior and Middle School families via the All Saints app/FIDO News this week outlining a few changes we’d like to trial from Monday 21 July. We are hoping the slight changes will further alleviate the wait time.

View full details here:

  • Junior School Update
  • Middle School Updates: Year 7, Year 8, Year 9

It is important for families to remember that any new arrangements will not magically eliminate the queue entirely.

We also ask parents who arrive at school early to park in the new lower car park. There should be no parking or long-term stopping in any of the pick-up zones. Parents with students of any age are welcome to park in the lower car park, where they may wait in their vehicle or walk into the school to collect their children.

Student Protection and Volunteering at All Saints

All Saints seeks to support a child-safe culture and we are committed to ensuring the safety and wellbeing of our students.

All the ways we do this are outlined in our Child and Youth Risk Management Strategy which includes policies, procedures and other controls to minimise the risk of harm to students. This document along with our key Student Protection policies and procedures, and a list of Student Protection Officers at our school (to whom parents or guardians can discuss concerns around child safety), are available on our website.

Our school greatly values the role volunteers play in the education of our students. We welcome and encourage parents, carers and other community members to join our wonderful team of volunteers who generously give up their time to provide this support. With student safety our main priority, all volunteers will need to register with the school and complete an induction. More information is provided on our website. Please note that volunteers require a Blue Card unless an exemption applies (current parents, volunteers under the age of 18 and those who volunteer only a few times a year do not need a blue card).

Finally, parents and visitors are respectfully required to abide by our Code of Conduct (Parents and Visitors) when visiting our school.

      Welcome to Term 3

A very warm welcome back to Term 3. It is already shaping up to be a wonderfully positive term with NAIDOC Week, Eisteddfod, a colour run, excursions, Giveathon, Livewire and Book Week Parades just a couple of the big ticket events in store. Years 4, 5 and 6 students are also excitedly anticipating their camp experiences.

I hope each and every Junior School family has enjoyed some special time together during our Winter break. It has been wonderful seeing students returning bright eyed and enthusiastic ready to engage in a new term of learning. The mercury has certainly dropped and I have been relishing the taste of the crisp, cool, clear weather. We are set to experience another busy All Saints term, one filled with special events and fantastic opportunities and I hope that it is one of health and happiness for us all.

My many interactions with students throughout this week have been highlighted by exciting holiday recaps and an enthusiasm to be back at school with friends, ready for learning in all of its various shapes and sizes. Best wishes for a fantastic Term 3.

      Recognising NAIDOC Week

National NAIDOC Week celebrations are held across Australia in the first week of July each year (Sunday to Sunday), to celebrate and recognise the history, culture and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. NAIDOC Week is an opportunity for all Australians to learn about First Nations cultures and histories and participate in celebrations of the oldest, continuous living cultures on earth. This year’s theme, The Next Generation: Strength, Vision and Legacy, marks a powerful milestone: 50 years of honouring and elevating Indigenous voices, culture and resilience.

Junior School students in Prep to Year 2 participated in a range of cultural experiences this week under the respectful and visionary eye of Lalania Tusa and her team - Caleb, Montana and Zahne.

Students rotated through a series of hands-on workshops sharing in stories and cultural lore with our special guests which included spear throwing, artefact identification, skirt weaving, jewellery and message stick making.

Thank you to Mrs Bridget Golder for coordinating this valuable learning experience.

      Spectacular String Workshop

Our Delius and Corelli String students participated in a Strings Workshop with the highly regarded and successful strings teacher, conductor, and pedagogue, Mr David Maddick this week.

Throughout the day our young musicians worked alongside Mr Maddick and our very own String Maestro, Mrs Brie Ramirez to hone their skills. The passion and energy of the workshop led to some inspiring progress which was on display at the afternoon’s concert for parents.

Thank you to Mrs Ramirez for coordinating such a valuable learning experience.

      Help with Hats

We have a strict No Hat, No Play rule in the Junior School.

Students are reminded regularly that they must have their hats on during all play, sport and outside learning times. We enforce this very important safety rule when our students are outside of classrooms even if they are playing in the shade. This helps build good habits around sun safety.

Students (Years 2-6) will be asked to sit out of play if they do not have a hat. We understand that hats get misplaced and we work hard to help students locate missing items but also are wanting to build skills of responsibility and accountability when it comes to the health and safety.

Your support and assistance ensuring hats are in school bags (sometimes a spare is very helpful) is greatly appreciated.

Term 3 Begins: Optional Round Table Conferences and Warm Welcome

      WECLOME TO TERM 3
I hope you all enjoyed the three-week break with your family. Whether it was a staycation, a trip inter-state or overseas (yay!) to a tourism mecca, or a pilgrimage to relatives, time spent with your children is so very precious. Now it’s time to brace yourself for a humdinger of a Term 3 – jam-packed with all sorts of adventures!

OPTIONAL ROUND TABLE CONFERENCING (TERM 3)
In Term 1, all Middle School students and parents were invited to be part of a Round Table Conference (RTC), whereby students, parents and Core teachers made time to peruse class work and assessment, review the student’s overall approach to their schooling and then set goals for the remainder of the semester. In Week 3 of this term we invite parents and students to be involved in an optional Round Table Conference with the same objectives in mind. During this round, parents can request an interview with any of their child’s teachers – Core or Specialist.

Next week, on Monday 21 July, you will be emailed instructions on how to book your RTC. Please note that for this optional round, all interviews will take place during two sessions only: Tuesday 29 July (3.30pm-6.00pm) and Wednesday 30 July (6.00pm-8.30pm). This will allow parents to meet with teachers of all their Middlers in the one session if they so wish.

As always: positive, open relationships between all three stakeholders are vital in any year of schooling but are particularly important during these 'middle years'. We look forward to continuing the dialogue!

      Acknowledging NAIDOC Week

NAIDOC Week in Middle school saw three very lucky classes head outside to connect with our wonderful Aboriginal and Torres Strait Island consultant Lalania and her family.

Spear throwing, making jewellery and weaving, message sticks and artifact activities provided students with the opportunity to 'learn by doing'.

Students gathered around the yarning circle under the big Eucalypts to talk about 'taking only what you need' from the land, 'sharing what you have' with each other, showing respect for country and experiencing spirituality through nature.

An unforgettable experience, and a meaningful celebration of 60,000 years of continuous living culture on the land we share with the saltwater Kombumerri people.

Year 9 into 10 Subject Selection Evening

As our Year 9 students' journey through Middle Earth enters its final phase, we begin looking ahead to 2026.

All Year 9 students and their parents are invited to attend the Year 9 into 10 Subject Selection Evening on Wednesday 23 July, from 6.00pm to 7.00pm in the Nairn Theatre.

At this event, members of the Senior School leadership team will explain:

      • The subjects are available in Year 10
      • The process they must undertake to register their preferences

There is no need to RSVP or book tickets. Should you not be able to attend, a copy of the presentation will be made available to you via FIDO, but given the significance of this evening, I would encourage you to move mountains to be there if you can.

      Term 3 Student Leaders

In the final week of Term 2, we conducted the second round of voting for Year 9 Middle School Leaders, and subsequently badged the following students at our Friday assembly this week:

Annie Bell, Stella Bracey, Venus Chou, Evie Clayworth, Ava Golder, Joshua Hunter, Finlay Stevenson, Beth Swift-Hoadley, Halle Thomas, Madeline Thompson.

We also appointed the Year 7 and Year 8 Leaders for Term 3. Congratulations to the following students:

The certificate they received along with their badges of office contained the following Statement of Intent:

“As Middle School Leaders, we will strive to inspire even greater levels of connection and involvement within our classes, our Houses and within and across all three year levels. We will also endeavour to model the sort of selfless, empathetic servant leader described in Galatians 6:2: “Carry each other’s burdens, and in this way, you will fulfill the law of Christ.”

This statement was generated by our first batch of Year 9 Middle School Leaders, constituting their vision for Middle School throughout 2025.

A reminder that, by way of providing an opportunity for more students to experience leadership, we will repeat the same selection process at the end of each term and subsequently appoint new year-level leaders. Thus, six students in each Year 7 and Year 8 class will be able to take on this all-important role throughout the year.

      Middle School Ski Trip

In the first week of the mid-year holidays, a brave army of sixty-plus Middlers flew and bussed to Falls Creek for a week in the snow.

On the first two days they endured 'white outs' – meaning the staff had to get creative and run all sorts of trivia competitions, challenges, tobogganing races and more to keep the students occupied (and sane) – but thereafter every lift on the mountain was open and the touring party enjoyed brilliant weather.

The students were simply magnificent ambassadors for the School the entire time they were away. After several days of skiing and snowboarding every single member had improved their alpine skills (and thus their enjoyment levels) and the number of friendships that flourished within and across the three different year levels was remarkable.

A huge thank you to all the staff that made this trip possible, including Mr Tom Campbell, Mrs Melinda Pascoe and Mr Craig Pascoe, as well as our two fearless and diligent organisers, Mrs Karen Couch and Ms Michelle Hunter!

Thanks to Ms Julie Klein, Ms Alison Weeks and Mrs Katie Ashcroft for their work preparing for these events. We look forward to welcoming both parents and students to these information evenings.

There are several students involved in a myriad of activities including a student symposium, basketball, netball and rugby presentation ceremonies, community service activities, sports trials, etc… in addition to normal lessons. It is always exciting!

On Wednesday next week, students are invited to wear a ' splash of blue' with their house uniforms – a gold coin donation will be collected for Giveathon and there will also be a bake sale at lunch in the Senior School Maths courtyard.

On Thursday 24 July, the Year 10 students will be involved in a whole day devoted to Careers. They will unpack the results from the individual Morrisby Surveys they completed last term and participate in various experiences and presentations exposing them to many possible careers options. Bella and Isaac Lend a Hand

Over the holidays, Year 11 students Bella Gaddes and Isaac Bracey generously gave their time to volunteer with RizeUp — a charity dedicated to supporting families escaping domestic violence by transforming empty houses into fully furnished homes.

Bella and Isaac worked thoughtfully and tirelessly to help set up a home for a mother and her two children, taking special care in creating welcoming spaces for each family member. From assembling beds and arranging furniture to making beds and carefully placing donated toys and essentials.

While the nature of the charity’s work means photos can’t be shared for privacy reasons, their efforts left a lasting impact. Examples of the kind of work they contributed to can be found on the Rize Up Facebook page.

Well done, Bella and Isaac, for living out our school values of service and compassion in such a meaningful way.

Queensland Athletics Championships All Schools Cross Country Relays

It was in the cold, wet rain at Nudgee College that 42 Junior and Middle Schoolers - consisting of seven boys’ teams, and seven girls’ teams from the age of 8 to 14 - competed in the 2025 QLD All Schools Cross Country Relay Championships on the first Saturday of the school holidays. It was our first time taking part in such an event and our All Saints teams did a tremendous job. That grit, energy, and vibrance that every participant showed was the reason behind our success.

All teams finished within the top 15 places, which is an incredible achievement in itself.  A huge congratulations to all teams for their outstanding efforts and especially to our podium finishers!

      🥇 Under 8 Boys – 1st Place
      🥇 Under 10 Girls – 1st Place
      🥈 Under 14 Girls – 2nd Place
      🥉 Under 9 Boys – 3rd Place

It was an experience that we could all enjoy, and we can speak for all the All Saints competitors that we had the best time working as a team and representing our school.

Despite the biting cold, the energy was contagious — from the cheer of the crowd to the pounding of spikes on the frosty grass, the event was extremely successful. We are so proud of all our athletes who showed up to the occasion. Especially those who had to run up an age group!

The course was filled with ups and downs (literally), slippery patches, sudden turns, and conditions that pushed our athletes to their absolute limit, but what stood out most was the unwavering support from teammates urging each other on at every corner. It was amazing to be able to watch each competitor push through the pain and receive an amazing outcome. That shared struggle made each finish line feel like a triumph for the entire team. Overall, it was a fun experience that had everyone walking away with a smile on their face.

We would like to say a huge thank you to Ms de Casanove who was the driver behind this event. It would not have been possible without her efforts!

      AFL Girls Update: Round Highlights

      JUNIOR GIRLS (Years 7 & 8)
After a long break between games, the girls took a little while to warm up against strong opposition from Marymount. But once they hit their stride, they were unstoppable — securing a fantastic 20–13 victory. The team should be extremely proud of their efforts. Their support for one another on the field and genuine sportsmanship in celebrating each other's success was a standout. It’s been an absolute delight to witness this group in action. Special mentions go to:

      • Vivienne Lugg, who was a wall in defence.
      • Darcy Laing, fearless in every contest.
      • Layla Crilly and Poppy Craft, whose skill and drive in the midfield kept the team moving forward.

Congratulations to all the girls and to Ms Branch on this phenomenal achievement!

The next game for this team will be held in Week 4.

      SENIOR GIRLS (Years 11 & 12)
Also facing Marymount, the Senior Girls stuck to their game plan and played as a united, cohesive team, making light work of tough competition to secure a dominant 60–19 victory. Their toughness around the ball, clear communication, and unwavering support for one another made them an absolute joy to watch — even from the goal umpire's post! The team’s commitment, courage, and composure under pressure have earned them a well-deserved place in the SEQ Regional Finals. Special mentions go to:

      • CC Hislop, who dominated in the ruck with strength and consistency.
      • Anika Connell and Bella Gaddes, rock-solid in the back line with excellent defensive efforts.
      • Phoenix Rogers, who smoked the competition on the wing and delivered multiple entries into the forward 50, directly contributing to goals.

Congratulations to the girls and to Mrs Cacciola-Whittle on this outstanding achievement!

Their next game will also be held in Week 4 on 7 August at Carrara AFC.

      YOUTH GIRLS (Years 9 & 10)
Unfortunately, the team did not get to take the field due to a forfeit from their opponents. However, they will be back in action soon.

The next game for this team will be next week – Wednesday 23 July at Carrara AFC against Pacific Pines State High School.

Performing Arts Tour 2025: Culture, Creativity and Connection

Over the winter break, 49 Performing Arts students and six staff journeyed through London, Prague, Vienna and Salzburg on an unforgettable tour. From West End shows and professional workshops to historical discoveries and inspiring performances, the trip was designed to deepen students’ understanding of the heritage of theatre and music and to ignite their passion for the Arts.

Highlights included seeing plays, musicals and concerts on the West End in London (with Les Misérables, Cabaret, The Curious Case of Benjamin Button and The Great Gatsby among the favourites), The Crucible at The Globe, swimming in the English sea, visiting Prague Castle, exploring the magnificent Schönbrunn Palace, enjoying a dinner and concert in the Salzburg Fortress, walked in Mozart’s footsteps and taking in the magical sounds of the London Symphony Orchestra. Students trained with Frantic Assembly at Pineapple Studios, walked the Golden Hall in Vienna, recreated the barricade scene with the musical director from Les Mis, cruised on a jazz boat in Prague, swam in the beautiful Lake Hallstatt, and of course squeezed in plenty of sightseeing (Big Ben, squirrels, deer, Lin Manuel Miranda and all).

Throughout, our students represented All Saints with pride, curiosity and joy, embracing every opportunity to grow as artists and as young people.

Scroll through the photos for a glimpse into this incredible experience.

A special thank you to Mrs Flint for her incredible job planning and leading this tour.
